Staff Retreats and Workshops

Staff development retreats and workshops provide a perfect opportunity for agency team members and leadership to take a step back from the day-to-day work of their organization and spend some time thinking about the bigger picture. It’s a time to rejuvenate the team, celebrate past year accomplishments, get everyone excited around a united mission, set goals for the upcoming year, and build bonds between team members. Dr. Shaw meets with organizational leaders to assess department needs, develop retreat themes, create content and conduct workshops and trainings specific to the needs of the organization. Community Engagement

Dr. Sonya is known for her comprehensive approach to developing and designing effective community engagement plans that integrate and align the unique context, community needs, and challenges of public projects. She has facilitated and coordinated various collaborative community engagement efforts for city lead projects such as parks and recreation comprehensive plans, parks master plans, community centers, recreational facilities, historic African American golf course and greenways. Dr. Sonya has led focus group sessions, public meetings and working group sessions to engage participants in targeted dialogues that help build consensus between all parties involved. Her approach to organizing and facilitating equitable engagement plans ensures that the concerns of traditionally underserved groups and youth are heard. Dr. Shaw has worked with several cities or municipalities in North Carolina including Apex, Asheville, Greensboro, Pinehurst, Raleigh, Wake Forest and Wilmington.
